Car accidents are just one of the ways that a traumatic brain injury can occur. When there are witnesses to the accident, especially if it is a hit-and-run, the victim’s family and police can obtain some very important details to the case that the victim cannot. A resident of Methuen, a northern suburb of Boston, fortunately, had witnesses come forward with details of a serious hit-and-run accident that caused the woman to suffer from a brain injury.

The 70-year-old woman was reportedly crossing Pelham Street one recent evening. Witnesses later told police that she was struck by a car and went flying through the air before landing where police found her in the westbound lane of Pelham Street. The car that struck the woman was allegedly driven by a 46-year-old freelance writer who also lives in Methuen. He was reportedly traveling west on Pelham Street and did not see the woman. He reportedly went to the police station after noticing his broken windshield.

The man has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury.

A week after the accident, the elderly woman was still in critical condition due to the brain trauma and other injuries she suffered.

The testimony of the witnesses and statements taken by the police may go a long way in helping her family recover the costs of the woman’s medical care. While this may have been an accident, the driver had a responsibility to be aware of his surroundings.
